Ulrike Bergermann will be a Mercator Fellow at the Kolleg from March 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021.

Ulrike Bergermann is a professor of Media Studies at the University of Art in Braunschweig, Germany, since 2009, with main areas of research in Gender and Postcolonial Studies and the history of knowledge. Following her PhD thesis on sign language notation and the discipline of sign language (Hamburg, published 2001), she taught Media Studies in Paderborn, Bochum, Berlin, and Cologne. A two year-Lise Meitner grant took her to archives in the UK and the US for a book on cybernetics and media studies (publ. in 2016). For two semesters, she was a guest professor at the Ruhr University Bochum. Edited volumes discuss postcolonial media theory, with Nanna Heidenreich (“Total”, 2015), or “Disability trouble” (2013), or “Klasse”, with Andrea Seier, vol. 12 of the Zeitschrift für Medienwissenschaften (the magazine she co-founded in 2007 and co-edited until 2019).
