Benoît Turquety will be a Mercator Fellow at the Kolleg from August 26, 2018 to September 25, 2018.
He is the Sandoz Family Foundation Chair of Assistant Professor of Film and Media Studies at the University of Lausanne, director of the SNF research project on Bolex and amateur cinema and of the EPIMETE/digital media epistemology research axis. He is a founding member of the Material Archival Studies Network and part of the Dispositives research group, of the Network for Experimental Media Archaeology, as well as the Technology and the Humanities project. His latest book, Inventer le cinéma. Épistémologie: problèmes, machines (Lausanne: L’Âge d’Homme, 2014), won the Maurizio Grande International Award for the best essay on cinema in 2015. Focusing on early substandard film production, African video, or experimental poetry, his recent research aims to re-establish digital media as a material culture, articulating machines, techniques, images, and sounds, modes of circulation and transmission, and networks of concepts.
