{"id":270,"date":"2018-02-24T18:25:58","date_gmt":"2018-02-24T18:25:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/konfigurationen-des-films.de\/?page_id=270"},"modified":"2023-05-15T19:32:48","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T19:32:48","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/konfigurationen-des-films.de\/en\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Critics like to describe contemporary film culture as &#8220;post-cinematic&#8221;: In a process of &#8220;relocation,&#8221; film has migrated to sites that cannot be fully understood through the <em>dispositif <\/em>of cinema alone, circulating instead in a variety of social and cultural arenas. New forms of moving image production beyond the standard feature film are (and have long been) emerging \u2013 from &#8220;amateur&#8221; video clips on YouTube to long-form &#8220;quality&#8221; television shows. Film, especially in these new configurations, functions as an important reference for theater, the visual arts and literature. The term \u201cpost-cinema\u201d designates the stakes for film theory: It opens up a perspective beyond the narrative of loss and mourning for a specificity of the medium, which is tied to the <em>dispositif <\/em>of cinema, the indexical nature of the photographic image, and a canon that has also been called into question.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rather than merely retelling this narrative of supposed loss, the loss of medium specificity, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dfg.de\/en\/research_funding\/programmes\/coordinated_programmes\/research_training_groups\/index.html\">Graduate Research Training Program<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;Configurations of Film&#8221; will address the question of what comes after the &#8220;post-cinematic condition.&#8221; How can we move beyond the aesthetic and ontological primacy of the triad of <em>dispositif<\/em>, index and canon in our thinking about film? What are the alternatives to the established dichotomies of film study, from \u201ctheatrical vs. non-theatrical\u201d and \u201cartistic vs. non-artistic\u201d to \u201ccanonical vs. noncanonical\u201d and \u201ccenter vs. periphery?\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"orientation-landscape slider alignnone wp-image-616 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/konfigurationen-des-films.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ODipdhL.gif\" alt=\"\"   \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"orientation-landscape alignnone wp-image-617 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/konfigurationen-des-films.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/giphy-5.gif\" alt=\"\"   \/><\/div>\n<p>The aim of the <i>Kolleg\u00a0<\/i>is to train excellent PhD students who will ultimately contribute toward the development of new, productive research paradigms for the next generation of film and media scholars. The program combines approaches from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-frankfurt.de\/41111760\/american_studies\">American Studies<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-frankfurt.de\/52354746\/tfm\">Film Studies<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-frankfurt.de\/52354746\/tfm\">Media Studies<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-frankfurt.de\/43265859\/muwi\">Musicology<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-frankfurt.de\/42991437\/Philosophie\">Philosophy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-frankfurt.de\/52354746\/tfm\">Theater Studies<\/a> at the Goethe University, Frankfurt, and brings the neighboring universities of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iftek.uni-mainz.de\/\">Mainz<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-marburg.de\/de\/fb09\/medienwissenschaft\">Marburg<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mkw.uni-mannheim.de\/\">Mannheim<\/a> as well as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hfg-offenbach.de\"><em>Hochschule f\u00fcr Gestaltung<\/em>\u00a0<em>Offenbach am Main<\/em><\/a> (University of Art and Design) into the scholarly network. It builds on three master programs at Goethe University as well as on long-standing collaborative projects and efforts among the participating senior researchers. PhD students in the program will benefit from world-class library holdings at the Goethe University, Frankfurt and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnb.de\/EN\/Home\/home_node.html\">German National Library<\/a>, as well as from affiliations with the <a href=\"https:\/\/deutsches-filminstitut.de\/en\/\">German Film Institute<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murnau-stiftung.de\/\">Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation<\/a> in Wiesbaden.
